Google told one store it had 816,270 conversions in nine weeks. The store shipped 303 orders. Same account. Same weeks.
That gap is why this page exists. Benchmarks tell you what average looks like. They do not tell you if your own numbers are real. Below: 70+ numbers, each with its source and date. Our own audit data comes last, in its own section.
How big is Google Ads in 2026?
Google Search is still the largest ad channel online: $63.3 billion of search ad revenue in one quarter.
- $63.3 billion: Google Search & other revenue, Q2 2026, up 17% from $54.2 billion. Alphabet Q2 2026 release, 22 Jul 2026.
- $81.6 billion: all Google advertising revenue, Q2 2026, up from $71.3 billion a year before. Same source.

Sundar Pichai, Alphabet's CEO, put it plainly: "Our popular AI features are driving Search query growth." (Alphabet, Jul 2026). More searches means more auctions. It does not mean more profit for you.
What is the average CPC on Google Ads in 2026?
The average cost per click (CPC) on Google search ads is $5.42 in 2026, across 23 industries. Prices barely moved this year. Clicks grew instead.

- $9.87: highest average CPC, Attorneys & Legal Services. Same source.

Most teams stare at CPC. Winners stare at cost per sale. A cheap click that never buys is the most expensive click you have. If you pay someone to run the account, add their fee to this number: see Google Ads management cost in 2026.
What is a good CTR for Google Ads in 2026?
A good click-through rate (CTR: the share of people who see your ad and click it) beats 6.64%, the 2026 average. AI Overviews now pull that number down on question-type searches.
- 6.64%: average search CTR, all industries. LocaliQ, data Apr 2025 – Mar 2026.
- 12.75%: highest average CTR, Arts & Entertainment. Same source.

These rates assume a "conversion" is a sale or a lead. Check that first. In our audit, Google counted page views as purchases, which is mistake #1 in 12 common Google Ads mistakes. A fake conversion rate makes every other number on this page useless.

What did one real audit find?
One store lost 48% of its Google Ads budget to ads that sold nothing. Here is the original data. We audited one Indian D2C (direct-to-consumer) store: every campaign since April 2023, 5,788 store orders, data to 9 Oct 2026. The brand stays private. "Proven" means a direct count from the account or the store.
- 48%: share of a ₹71,800 monthly budget that sold nothing, ₹34,400 a month. Proven.
- ₹16,900 + ₹17,500: the split: ads on products that never sell, plus YouTube video ads that show no product. Proven as waste; the YouTube saving needs a switch-off test.
- +96% vs +31%: ad spend (₹37,247 → ₹73,133 a month) vs online revenue (₹246,748 → ₹324,135), Oct – Jul vs the year before. Proven.
- 816,270 vs 303: Google "conversions" vs real store orders, 7 Aug – 9 Oct 2026. Page views were counted as purchases. Proven.
- 32,485 vs 5: one PMax campaign's "conversions" in one week vs its real sales. Proven.
- 64–89%: share of the value Google bid for that came from page views, every month since July 2025. Proven.
- 234 of 450: store orders in 3 months that matched a Google purchase. Google saw about half. Proven.
- 91%: store orders with no recorded source. Proven.
- 792 of 1,027: products that took ₹51,100 in 3 months (41% of product-ad money) and sold nothing through ads. Proven.
- 94%: share of ad sales from the top 10% of products. Proven.
- ₹10.60 vs ₹0.01: sales per ₹1 of product ads on Search vs YouTube, 3 months. YouTube still got 56% of that money. Proven.
- 47% → 13%: Search share of one PMax campaign's money after its target return was raised on 7–8 Aug 2026. Proven.
- ₹648 → ₹988: cost per Google sale after targets went from 4 to 8–10; Google sales fell 40%. The fall is proven; a goal change in the same week shares the blame.
- 1 in 5: eligible searches where the ads showed. About 70–80% were lost to ad rank; budget lost less than 15% in 22 of 24 months. Proven.
- 64 of 79: images that made no sale, 4 running campaigns, 3 months. Proven.
- 13 of 16: videos that made no sale. Proven.
- 3,533 vs 1,080,000: views for Google's 101 auto-made images vs the store's own images, 8 months. Proven.
- ₹500 vs ₹2,000–2,600: cost per sale at night (12 am – 8 am) at about ₹9,900 vs ₹19,000 of monthly night spend. Proven.
- 74 of 761: products that could not show: out of stock, wrong price, bad image or broken page. Proven.
- ₹34,000–70,000: extra store revenue a month we estimate the fixes can bring, on a ₹42,400–59,900 budget. Likely ₹34,000; possible ₹70,000.
Google's own screen praised one campaign for 32,485 conversions in a week. It made 5 sales. The full numbers are on our audit proof section, with the same "how sure" label on each one.

How we know this
Third-party numbers come from the sources listed below, each opened on 14 Oct 2026. We name vendor and agency studies as such; their samples are their own clients. Benchmarks are averages from LocaliQ customers' campaigns (April 2025 – March 2026), not targets. Our own data comes from one real audit of an Indian D2C store (brand private): Google Ads for every campaign since April 2023, Google Analytics, account screenshots from 10 Oct 2026 and 5,788 store orders, ending 9 Oct 2026. We copy each audit number as the audit gives it and label how sure it is. Our audit is one account, so treat it as a case, not an average. See how we build the agent system.
